When it comes to food, Vienna has something for every palate. Whether you are a budget traveler or an extravagant food connoisseur, you will find Vienna to be an ideal place to indulge in gastronomic experiences.

There are a variety of food choices in Vienna, ranging from German to Turkish to Chinese to Italian. There is also, of course, traditional Viennese food. One of the best Viennese food restaurants is Schnitzelwirt Schmidt, which features excellent quality Viennese food in satisfying portions. Their beer is also highly recommended. For those with a sweet tooth, you may want to try traditional Viennese sweets, which can be found at Manner Factory Shops. The Danube Tower Restaurant also provides an interesting food experience. It is a revolving restaurant situated at the top of Danube Tower, allowing you to enjoy panoramic views as you sip and dine on Viennese fare.

Turkish food is also popular in Vienna, due no doubt to its historical and geographical proximity to Istanbul. Kebab, Turkish sandwiches with meat, vegetables and yoghurt sauce, can be found with relative ease in kebab stands or in markets, such as the Naschmarket. One of the most famous Turkish restaurants in Vienna would be Cafe Restaurant Kent, which offers reasonably priced and scrumptious Turkish food.

There are many other noteworthy restaurants in Vienna. Maschu Maschu, for example, is a famous Israeli food restaurant. They have two branches in Vienna, and their food has been well-received by the Viennese society. Vegetasia – Wien Landstrasse is a vegan restaurant that features mainly Chinese based dishes. WOK is a charming restaurant that allows you to partake cuisine from various parts of Southeast Asia. Visitors hankering for Japanese food can head over to Kuishimbo Restaurant. Mythos, meanwhile, is a Greek restaurant with an extended menu of delicious Greek dishes.

Popular food items in Vienna are kebabs, as mentioned earlier, as well as sausages. There are many different types of sausages in Vienna, but the type most liked by locals is the Käsekrainer, which is a cheese sausage. Ice cream is also a local favourite, with Eissalon am Schwedenplatz being the most popular place to get ice creams.

Other than restaurants, you can also fill your stomach at the many different cafes and bars, which also provide food. If you would like to try your hand at cooking while in Vienna, just head over to the supermarkets or the local markets to stock up on supplies. Whatever your choice, one thing is clear: you need never go hungry in Vienna.
